Acknowledging the significance of the English Proficiency examination is equally essential as the other steps of the process. It serves as one of the primary criteria for study-abroad aspirants from non-English speaking nations. Aspirants, especially from India and other Asian countries (wherever English is not the first language), are bound to undertake such tests to prove their required language proficiency. One cannot complete their admission process without having the relevant scores.
As a potential international student, one must be aware of the TOEFL Test of English as a Foreign Language), DET (Duolingo English Test), PTE (Pearson Test of English), and IELTS (International Language Testing System). These are widely accepted standardised tests that measure the English language proficiency of a non-English speaker. The purpose of all these tests is the same but varies in pattern.
IELTS and TOEFL are the most popular among the previously mentioned tests. At the same time, PTE and Duolingo are still news for many.
Test takers are advised to select tests that suit them to practice in terms of the test structure and their comfort to prepare and perform for the same.
Refer to the table given below to comprehend the score comparison for all four- IELTS, TOEFL, DET and PTE –
