The whole India to the USA Visa process for young students can be pretty overwhelmed and long. Many say a lot of things about the process which is not always true and confuse the students even more. That is why we are putting all the valuable and crucial information one needs to know while applying for the whole India to the USA Visa in the following document.
You will find a step-by-step guide that will help you and prepare you for the whole process.
A Step By Step Guide for US Visa Application Process
The procedure for applying for a US visa from India, including the application and stamping of the visa, is illustrated below.
A) Take a digital picture
When you are applying for a US visa, a digital photograph is needed. Certain requirements must be met in order for the photograph to be accepted. If you specify that the photo is for a US visa application, a good photographer or studio will do it.
THE BASIC REQUIREMENTS OF THE PHOTOGRAPH:
- The digital photograph must be a square
- Image must be in color
- Image must be in the JPEG format
- The image’s file size must be under or equal to 240 kilobytes.
- The minimum dimension is 600 pixels x 600 pixels and the Maximum dimensions are 1200 pixels x 1200 pixels
B) Complete the US visa application form DS160
You can get a confirmation with a 10-digit barcode after successfully completing the application of the DS160 form. This page should be printed. This would be needed in order to schedule your visa interview later.
C) Pay the US visa application fee
The fee may be charged in cash or electronically via a bank transfer at specified CitiBank or Axis bank branches throughout India. Build a profile on the US Visa Service website and pick the Plan Appointment option to ensure the correct amount is charged and triggered in a timely manner. You will be provided with payment options and more details on the payment confirmation screen.
D) Take appointment for a visa interview
Create a visa reservation for the United States on the official website.
E) US Visa Fingerprinting at Visa Application Center (VAC)
Since scheduling a personal interview with the consulate or embassy, make a fingerprinting appointment at least a day or two before the consulate interview.
F) Go for the visa interview at the designated US consulate
Go to the consulate where your interview is held on the day and time specified in your interview appointment. Bring all necessary and supporting records, as well as originals.
G) Carry The Following Materials To Your Visa Interview:
- Your passport (and your old passports if any)
- Your photograph
- The barcode page (you will not need the full application)
- The visa application fee receipts (applicable for application in US consulate in India)
- Visa appointment letter.
- Petition-based visa applicants (H, L, F, J, M, R visas) should also bring petition-related documents.
- Supporting documents, based on what kind of visa you are applying for.
